The Collector of Thane Dr. Mahendra Kalyankar convened a meeting in Collectorate to strictly follow and implement verdict of Honourable High Court. Chhaya Umredkar – Assistant Charity Commisioner, Vandana Suryavanshi Resident Deputy Collector (RDC) Thane and representative from all charity hospitals were present.
In the meeting Collector emphasised to strictly follow the guidelines prescribed by Honourable High Court, charity commisioner and state government. All charity hospitals should provide treatment to patients from poor and Below Poverty Line (BPL) category in charity hospitals of Thane district. All patients who are entitle for free and subsidised treatment should be provided as per norm.
The Thane Collector emphasised that in emergencies, hospitals should admit patients and treatment to be started immediately. The charity hospital should also display availability of number of beds in charity category on Public notice board of respective hospitals.
It may be noted that currently there are 15 charity hospitals located in Thane district alone. in totality there are 2,494 beds are available. out of these beds 502 beds are available for poor and BPL patients.
The charitable hospitals are Dr. D Y patil hospital, Terna Medical College, MGM hospital in Vashi and Belapur, PKC hospital in Vashi, Lion R jhunjhunwala Hospital in Koparkhairane, Bhakti Vedant hospital, Bethani Hospital, Kaushalya Medical Foundation, Rehmania Hospital, Swami Sarvanand Hospital. Manav Kalyan hospital, Maharashtra Holy Cross Hospital, Social Service League and General Hospital, Archana Public Trust and Century rayon Hospitals etc.
The representatives of charitable hospitals raised few question to district administration. They mentioned that most of the time patients are not having required documents like Income Certificate issued by state government for their eligibility for free or concessional treatments in charity hospitals. The Resident Deputy Collector (RDC) Vandana Suryavanshi specifically mentioned that Yellow and Kesari colour ration card holders should be considered for free or concessional treatments. She also instructed to hospitals representative to contact concerned Tahsildar if they face any difficulties.
