India’s leading hospitality chain Indian Hotels Company Ltd (IHCL) appointed Puneet Chhatwal as its Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the company. He will take over from incumbent Rakesh Sarna, who is stepping down on September 30, 2017. In a Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) filing, the board of directors of the company at its meeting held today (Tuesday) approved the appointment of Chhatwal.
Chhatwal is currently Chief Executive and Member of the Executive Board of Deutsche Hospitality/Steigenberger Hotels AG, a large European hotel chain. He has over three decades of leadership experience in the global hospitality industry, having worked with some of the leading hotel groups in Europe and North America. He has a vast experience of working in Carlson and Carlson Rezidor hotel group. He was a Prokurist with Feuring group.
Chhatwal has completed his hotel management from prestigious Institute of Hotel Management and Catering Technology (IHM) Pusa (1981-84 batch). He is a batch-mate of ‘PADMASHRI’ Awardee Grand Master Chef Sanjeev Kapoor.
Chhatwal started his career in as Management Trainee with ITDC’s Ashok Group of Hotels. He worked in food and beverage departments in Ashok Hotel and also worked for India’s lone Japanese Restaurant ‘Tokyo’ in those days. Later he was sent to France for his master’s degree by ITDC. He also worked for Maurya Sheraton hotel in New Delhi.
