The Chinese Consulate in Mumbai celebrated 68th National Day on Tuesday 26th, 2017 in Crystal Room of Taj Mahal Palace hotel in Mumbai. Attended by a large number of people including those from foreign missions in Mumbai, business persons, media, intellectuals and th Rohit others, the evening was representative of good, warm and historic relations between the two giant Asian neighbours. China’s National Day falls on October 01.
The event was well organised, Sumit Mullick, Chief Secretary, Government of Maharashtra was chief guest of the event. His Excellency Zheng Xiyuan, Consulate-General of the People’s Republic of China in Mumbai presided over the function. Ms Li Fang Hui, Consular, members of leading Chinese organisation and team members of Consulate were also present.
Niece of Dr. Kotnis was felicitated at the event. It is worth mentioning that 69 years ago Dr. Dwarkadas Kotnis who was flown to China in 1938 for treating patients of epidemic was felicitated by Consul General of Peoples Republic of China, in same venue Crystal Room of Taj Mahal hotel Mumbai.
On National day event on September 26th, 2017, niece of Dr. Kotnis was also felicitated. Solapur Municipal Corporation Mayor Shobha Bansethi, Mr World 2016 Rohit Khandelwal, Femina Miss India 2017, Kiran Shantaram (son of legendary film maker Dr V Shantaram who produced, directed and acted Dr. Kotnis ki Amar kahani) was also present. It may be noted that Beijing Government always came forward to help when it was needed most. When Maharashtra state was reeling under severe drought situation in 2016, Solapur received Rs30 lakh from China government to combat the severe drought situation it was facing. His Excellency Zheng Xiyuan, Chinese Consul General handed over the money to state government. The benevolent gesture is the result of efforts made by Solapur’s Dr Dwarakanath Kotnis, who saved many injured Chinese citizens during World War II with his selfless service.
