On Dusherra weekend, we wanted to check out some authentic Oriental fare in Mumbai. Realised that there is newly opened China Inc, Chinese restaurant at Taj Santacruz Hotel. The hotel is located at just outside domestic airport terminal in the heart of the town. To our surprise, 70 covers restaurant was completely choc-a-bloc with lively mood of guests. As it was packed, I was given a table to sit in the private dining room. It is a classic place to dine with family, full of world class exclusivity. The menu is as authentic as it gets: no Manchurian maladies or American Chopsuey here, thank you very much.
We began with starters that included sauté chicken dry chilli and wok tossed black and white fungus, celery, lotus root, crispy tofu, chilli pepper salt and mushroom in black pepper sauce. Indeed, they were finest preparation!
Now, it was turn of a soup, the soup screams, er, steams comfort food, a soup that would have you wishing for winter delights. Poached Wonton, baby pockchoy chicken soup and vegetarian manchow soup. What a piping hot preparation clearing all the mess which were blocked in the throat to relish main course.
There was hardly any space left in our stomach to have main course, but the fragnanced from food which were served to other guests compelled us change our mind. On the suggestion of restaurant manager, Rohan Raut, we decided to try out Chinese bread steamed Mantau, sliced chicken chilli oyster sauce, hakka noodles and clay pot cooked rice with five spice and assorted mushroom. All dishes were scrumptious and worth trying again. Last but not least, we tried out dessert, batter fried milk cake, chilled longan and green tea ice cream, the name itself is satisfying. It may sound unbelievable but I must mention that Taj Santacruz is carrying out legacy in serving authentic food right from its inception.
The ambience of China Inc is stunning which makes you feel dining under the positive vibration. Dragon shape chandelier gives you feeling as if you are sitting somewhere in restaurant of Chinese province.
The service in luxury hotels speciality restaurant should be just right and they were matched here too. Abhishek Sharma, steward who was assigned to take care of us, was a perfectionist in his job. He knew indepth of entire menu and explained us each and everything which made us choose dishes of different kind with ease. Chef Sudarshan Sawant, has taken a great effort to keep things in the best of the shape.
It deserves a five star rating. So, if you are looking to taste authentic Chinese food, head straight to China Inc, Taj Santacuz. To avoid waiting in the lobby, make advance booking, happy dining.
