Mahatma Gandhi’s 148th Jayanti was celebrated at Raj Bhavan in Mumbai on October 2nd, 2017. B Venugopal Reddy, Secretary to Governor of Mahrashtra Ch Vidyasagar Rao paid floral tribute to photo of Mahatama Gandhi along with other officials. His Excelency the Governor of Maharashtra Ch Vidyasagar Rao was away in Chennai for official visit.
Ranjit Kumar, Deputy Secretary to Governor of Maharashtra, Collector and District Magistrate of Mumbai Sampada Mehta, Vasant Salunke family manager of Governor were present. Besides, officials and staff of Raj Bhavan, on duty police officials, officials from PWD and officials and police personnel from State Reserve Police (SRP) were also present during the ceremony.
It may be noted that every year on October 2, India celebrates the birth of its iconic leader Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. He has been given the title of ‘Father of the Nation’ for his relentless hard work that helped India attain its freedom. Gandhi Jayanti on October 2 marks the birth of Mahatma Gandhi, who is considered to be one of the most prominent leaders of the Indian Independence movement. By remembering him on this day, celebrated as Gandhi Jayanti, we pay tribute to this great leader.
Also The United Nations General Assembly announced on 15 June 2007 that October 2 will be celebrated as the International Day of Non-Violence.
