Despite tall claims made by the railway authorities concerned for providing the basic facilities at the city railway station, the ground reality is otherwise. The lacklusture attitude of Western Railway (WR) is on its peak causing inconvenience to passengers.
There are adequate numbers of ticket vending machines installed at various station but maximum vending machines are out of order. Train passengers have to struggle to find working machines. A number of passengers, especially women, children and senior citizens are most sufferers.
Take an example of Goregaon railway station. There are 6 ticket vending machines installed outside East side booking office but only 2 machines are operational. Similarly there are 2 vending machines on East side foot over bridge (FOB), only 1 is operational. There is a booking office in newly constructed concourse area above Harbour line platform where out of 6 machines 2 are out of order.
Primarily if it is observed, almost 80% vending machines at Goregaon station are out of order. When many passengers approached station masters to make him know about non functional vending machines, their standard reply is, we have given memo to concerned department to do the needful.
Despite complaints from many passengers, no initiative has been initiated for repairing of these vending machines making passengers inconvenience for unknown reasons. If all these machines would work properly, there would be hardly any queue outside ticket windows. This correspondent also lodged a written complaint about fortnight ago, but things are still remained unchanged.
Despite numerous attempts to contact Ravinder Bhakar CPRO, WR were futile. He neither answered phone call nor responded to text message of this correspondent.
