The residents of Jogeshwari have reason to cheer. A new escalator has been sanctioned which will be installed at Jogeshwari railway staion. Piyush Goyal Minister of Railways has sent a letter to local MLA Dr. Bhrati Lavekar in this regards. The installation of escalator will commence soon.
The present Jogeshwari station FoB is 27 meters in height and has 74 steps, climbing is a difficult task especially for senior citizens and disabled people. Commuters using Jogeshwari railway station have a long pending demand to have escalators on the foot-over-bridge due to its unusual height. The escalator is a boon for senior citizen women and childrens and of course it would be used by thousands of railway commuters on daily basis.
It may be noted that local MLA Dr. Bharati Lavekar fought tooth and nail for the approval of escalator. Keeping in view demand of public and pain faced by elderly and women, she constantly followed this matter up with Railway minister, Western Railway (WR) authorities and Railway Board. Her efforts paid a dividend and escalator has been sanctioned.Piyush Goyal Minister for Railways has written a letter to Dr. Lavekar in this regard, the copy of letter is available with Mumbai Messenger.
Dr. Bharati Lavekar local BJP MLA said “Many people, senior citizen, pregnant women and childrens approached me for installing escalator. The ticket booking office is situated on the foot over bridge (FOB) and it is really painful to climb the bridge. I have met former railway minister Suresh Prabhu and GM of WR. I have also requested CM Devendra Fadnavis, who also wrote a letter to railway minister. “Now, for the convenience of people, the escalator installation work will be taken up immediately. It is a dream of local residents and I am happy that it would be fulfilled soon”.
