As a regular rituals followed from last several decades, Mumbai Customs celebrated 72nd Independence Day 2018 with great zeal and enthusiasm on 15th August 2018. The formal function was organised in the lawn of New Custom House, Ballard Estate in Mumbai.
Rajeev Tandon, Chief Commissioner of Customs (CC) Zone – I unfurled the tricolour and all in unison sang the national anthem. A guard of Honour was presented to the Chief Commissioner of Customs, zone-I.
Speaking on the occasion he remembered the fore father of our nation who fought for our freedom struggle and also stressed that we all should strive to work for the upliftment downtrodden of the society. He also encouraged the staff to carry forward and meticulously implement the Swachh Bharat Mission initiated by Government of India.
Other senior officials who were present during Independence Day celebration included APS Suri, Chief Commissioner of Customs, Mumbai Zone-III, S K Das, Principal Commissioner of Customs (General). Many other senior officers and staff were also present on this occasion.
A magazine named “Seema Bharti” was launched on this occasion. Some officers were felicitated for their commendable work for the department on this occasion. Later a cultural programme was also organised where large number of participants including Ms. Rima Girkar, a well known singer, performed on this occasion.
It maybe noted that Mumbai Customs celebrate Independence Day every year in their head quarter in Mumbai where all the Chief Commissioner, senior officials and other staff participate.
