The Sri Lankan Consul General (CG) in Mumbai, Her Excellency Chamari Rodrigo has taken keen initiative to promote Sri Lankan food in Mumbai to commemorate the 70th Anniversary of the Diplomatic Relations, between India and Sri Lanka. In this regard, ten days Sri Lankan Food Festival is organised at The Leela Hotel Mumbai from 30th August to 8th September 2018. The official launch of food festival would take place on 30th August by H.E. Consul General of Sri Lanka.
A press conference was organised by Sri Lankan CG at their mission office at Flora Fountain in Mumbai. It was attended by Sri Lankan CG, Vireshika Bandara Consul, Sameer Sud General Manager, Abhishek Basu EAM F&B The Leela Mumbai and Udeni Perera – Area Manager- Sri Lankan Airlines. Sri Lankan food festival is organised in association with Mount Lavinia Hotel, The Cinnamon Lodge Habarana, Sri Lankan Airlines and The Leela Mumbai Hotel.

Chamari Rodrigo The Sri Lankan CG in Mumbai, said “We are committed to enhance our seventy year long association with India and best way to develop better relation is through food, as there is a saying “The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach”. This time we are have invited Deshbandu Chef Silva to show case his culinary secrets. Chef Silva would be here for initial four days along with Chef Sunanda Kumar of the Cinnamon Lodge Habarana for an exclusive Sri Lankan Food Festival.”
She added “We are celebrating seventy year relation with India not only in Mumbai but in Delhi too. Due to National mourning of former PM Atal Behari Vajpayee’s demise, we could not bring Sri Lankan dance Troupe, which were to be performed in Delhi and Mumbai too. Ee will definitely arrange dance troupe in it in our next food promotion”.
Udeni Perera – Area Manager- Sri Lankan Airlines said “We are proud to be associated with Sri Lankan food festival. We being a official airline partner, will take care of all logistic factors for food festival. We are carrying ingredients and all other ancillary things which would be used in festival. The Sri Lankan Airlines operates daily flights between Mumbai and Colombo, facilitates immensely the travellers from Mumbai who prefer to visit Sri Lanka within a short travel time for business or holiday”.
Sameer Sud-General Manager, The Leela Mumbai said “The Leela Mumbai is known for serving authentic delicacies from India and across the globe. In international cuisine promotions, we try to bring chefs from particular regions to create authentic delicacies. The Leela Mumbai has organised Sri Lanakn food feast on earlier occasions too”.
Abhishek Basu-EAM F&B, The Leela Mumbai said “During the Food Festival, our team of chefs headed by Corporate Indian Chef Surender Mohan along with the Sri Lankan Chefs will offer authentic Sri Lankan culinary featuring the choicest of delicacies from Sri Lanka. It is a best opportunity for all to relish authentic delicacies”.
The importance of Sri Lankan food festival can be gauged as Sri Lanka’s third highest Civilian Award recipient Chef “Deshbandu” Dr. Pubilis Silva will show case his traditional recipes for Mumbaikar. Chef Silva is culinary director of Mount Lavinia Hotel, Sri Lanka’s prestigious 212 years history and colonial heritage. The “Deshbandu” is the third highest Sri Lankan national honour. It is awarded for meritorious services.
