Chef Jodha revive last dinner of Titanic Ship at ITC Windsor

We all must have heard of Titanic Ship which tragically lost on its maiden voyage, over a century ago on April 15, 1912. But very few know that there was a dinner – popularly referred to as the ‘Last Dinner’ on the Titanic, before tragedy occurred.

Akshraj Jodha, Executive Chef of ITC Windsor Manor hotel in Bengaluru has conceptualised century old menu by referring to books and organised a food festival. If you want to get a feel of this unique dining experience, you do not have to travel anywhere else. Raj Pavilion at ITC Windsor manor is serving abridged versions of the Titanic menu in a 3 course plated format for lunch. The dinner buffet will also feature many of the menu items. The food festival is on till 31st August, 2018.

It may be noted that as per records available, only two menus were recovered from the ship. The meal was served several hours before the tragedy struck. One of these menus was served in the first-class dining saloon of the RMS Titanic.

On last dinner for Titanic passengers of First class were served 10 course meals. The dishes included Grilled Mutton, Dumplings, Brill Fillets, Corned Beef, Salmon, Bologna Sausage, Norwegian Anchovies, Veal and Ham Pie, Galatine of Chicken. Prominent wines from across the world and varieties of cheese were also included in the menu. One can get real feelings of authentic delicacies relishing at Raj Pavilion.

Akshraj Jodha – Executive Chef at ITC Windsor Speaking to Mumbai Messenger said “RMS Titanic’s menu was designed on French gastronomy which was very popular globally. We have recreated similar dishes but have used substitutes as certain items are legally banned in India; we made sure that taste of delicacies which we have created is perfect. Our dishes are appreciated by guests. We at ITC Windsor committed to serve World’s best cuisine. Over a period of time ITC Windsor will organise best of the food festival from India and abroad”.    

Chef Jodha further added “Whenever someone organise a food festival it was important to get the presentation close to the original. Creating a century old menu is not easy and has to somewhere close to authentic. We tried to get the presentation as close to the original. We have done extensive research and development by going through the book titled “Last Dinner on the Titanic” authored by Rick Archbold and Dana McCauley”.
