Mumbai Born Chef Deepak Bhatia is one of the well-known and veteran chefs from India, has won The Award of Culinary Excellence, 2017 at Executive Chef of the Year, Marriott International’s Global Discipline Awards 2018. The award ceremony was held at Bethesda, Maryland (USA). Chef Bhatia is currently heading The Westin Gurgaon, New Delhi as Executive Chef.
The Award of Culinary Excellence was established in 1998 to identify and celebrate the impressive global Culinary Talent throughout the Luxury, Premium and Select Brand International portfolio. Established in 1987 and named after founder, the J. Willard Marriott Award of Excellence honors the company’s finest associates who represent the characteristics of the award: achievement, character, dedication, effort and perseverance.
Chef Bhatia is hardcore Mumbaikar, born and raised in South Mumbai. He completed his basic schooling at St. Sebastian Goan high school at Chira Bazar in Mumbai and done Higher Secondary in Science stream from K J Somaiya College at Vidya Vihar in Mumbai. Soon after completing his HSC, he joined prestigious Institute of Hotel Management Mumbai – Dadar. He completed his graduation and post-graduation and passed out with flying color in 1983.

Chef Bhatia is known for creating exclusive cuisines and has vast experience in his kitty which consists of locally and globally. He has mastered the art of Pre-Openings which considered being a great task to implementing world class infrastructures and best of the equipments to be used at.
Beginning of culinary journey:
Chef Bhatia has rich heritage of over 30 years of culinary experience. Soon after passing out from IHM Mumbai, he was selected as Chef Trainee at Oberoi School of Hotel Management (currently known as OCLD). He completed his post degree at The Oberoi New Delhi and got his first assignment and posted at The Oberoi Mumbai (Pre-opening). After completing three year at The Oberoi Mumbai, he felt like enhancing his culinary skill overseas. No sooner he got an opportunity, he migrated to Australia. In Australia, He worked for leading hotels and restaurant chains. Later he got an opportunity to join Qantas Airline, National Careers flight Catering division. He worked more than six years in Australia and enjoyed his stint.
In Australia, as time passed by, he felt like coming home. As saying goes, “Home is a place you grow up wanting to leave, and grow old wanting to get back to. The magic thing about home is that it feels good to leave, and it feels even better to come back”, he came back to India and Joined Hyatt Regency Delhi, no looking back thereafter.
After returning back from Australia, Chef Bhatia has worked for leading hotel chains like Hyatt International in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Nepal, Taipei, Singapore, Bangkok, Brunei and Baku, Oberoi Hotels and Resorts, Leela Kempinsk to name a few.
Chef Bhatia is involved with overseeing vast culinary operations of Food & Beverage destinations of two properties that includes The Westin Gurgaon, New Delhi and The Westin Sohna Resort & Spa. The prominent outlets in both the properties includes Prego Italian Restaurant, EEST – an upmarket restaurant with private areas for Chinese, Thai & Japanese food, Seasonal Tastes, Daily Treats, Mix- Lounge and Bar, Splash, STORY Club and Lounge, at Gurgaon and The Living Room, Xiao Chi, Mix Lounge and Bar and Splash at Sohna, banquets and In-room dining.
