Maharashtra Governor CH Vidyasagar Rao announced the appointment of Dr Shashikala Wanjari as the new Vice Chancellor of the SNDT Women’s University. She succeeds Prof Vasudha Kamat whose term ended on 13 May. Mumbai University Vice Chancellor Sanjay Deshmukh was officiating as Vice Chancellor after the completion of tenure of Prof Kamat. SNDT University is celebrating its centenary this year.
Dr Wanjari has vast experience in teaching, research and administration. She is presently serving as Professor and Head, Department of Education in the Rashtra Sant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University.
Dr Shashikala Wanjari obtained her M Sc in Biochemistry and further took her M. A. in English and M.Ed. from the RTM Nagpur University. She later obtained Ph. D. in Education.
The Governor had set up a Search Committee under the chairmanship of retired Chief Justice of the Rajasthan High Court Justice Jagdish Bhalla to select the new Vice Chancellor for the S N D T Women’s University in April this year. Dr S Parasuraman, Director of Tata Institute of Social Sciences and Smt Valsa Nair, Secretary, Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Government of Maharashtra were members of the Committee.
The Governor announced the selection of Dr Shashikala Wanjari after interviewing all the candidates recommended by the Search Committee on Friday.
