MP Gajanan Kirtikar’s adopted village students participated in IISF -2016

Students from Asud Village of Dapoli Taluka in Ratnagiri district of Maharashtra leaving for Delhi in Rajdhani train from Mumbai Central.

The Students of Asud Village of Dapoli Taluka in Ratnagiri district of Maharashtra reached Delhi to participate second India International Science Festival (IISF-2016) which is inaugurated in New Delhi. The students travelled to Delhi by Rajdhani Express from Mumbai.

The Asud village is adopted by Gajanan Kirtikar, Member of Parliament (MP) from Mumbai North West constituency under Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana (SAGY). The Asud village has a population of 2450 as per census record.
IISF as a major science event was conceptualized last year which was organized the 1st IISF at IIT, Delhi during 4-8 December, 2015. It was visited by more than 4 lakh people. It was a great success and also won the distinction of Guinness Book of World Record for successful conduct of Largest Practical Science Lesson by 2000 school students.
Gajanan Kirtikar, MP said “We want to encougage students who are deprived of knowledge. These students from village level schools will be exposed to many scientific activities like interaction with scientists, watching scientific films apart from laboratory visits and tours around Delhi. The participation of students from Asud village is an eye opener for others also in nearby and surrounding villages too”.

It may be noted that SAGY is a rural development programme broadly focusing upon the development in the villages which includes social development, cultural development and spread motivation among the people on social mobilization of the village community.[ The programme was launched by the Prime Minister,Narendra Modi on the birth anniversary of Jayprakash Narayan on October,11th 2014.
