His Excellency Walter Lindner, the newly appointed Ambassador of Germany to India called on the His Excellency Governor of Maharashtra CH. Vidyasagar Rao at Raj Bhavan, Mumbai on Thursday, 6th June. Both dignitaries emphasized on various subject for betterment and co operation in various areas. Consul General of Germany in Mumbai Jurgen Morhard also accompanied the Ambassador during the visit. He was accompanied by Consul General of Germany in Mumbai Jurgen Morhard.
The Ambassador highlighted that Germany and India have always enjoyed excellent cordial relations for many years. He mentioned that Germany is partnering with India in cleaning River Ganga.He also mentioned that Germany is also cooperating with India in renewable energy, agricututre and UNESCO- sponsored project of protecting tigers.
The Ambassador also informed the Governor that the Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel is likely to visit India in November this year. During her visit to India she will also visit Mumbai.
The Governor had apprised to the Ambassador that, in his capacity as Chancellor of 20 state-supported univerties in Maharashtra, he would welcome cooperation between universities in Germany and those in Maharashtra, especially with the Sanskrit University.
At the meeting The Ambassador said, that Germany and India have always enjoyed excellent relations for many years. Unique and offbeat beginning:
When he arrived in Delhi, he announced his arrival in style. He made heads turn, when he arrived at the Rashtrapati Bhawan in a red Ambassador car. Prior to presenting his credentials to President Ram Nath, he was seen travelling Indian cities. The President of India was much delighted when he presented his credential to him in Hindi, on May 21, 2019. He was also seen meeting 'sadhus' in Varanasi, touring Delhi's spice market Khari Baoli in a rickshaw, and visiting the Beatles Ashram, the diplomat has announced his arrival in style.

The envoy, who sports long hair tied in a ponytail, quickly gained popularity on social media, soonafter his arrival in India. He live-tweeted his tour of Indian cities: Jaipur, Shekhawati, Dehradun, Rishikesh and Varanasi. He also shared a photograph of himself, when he had visited Varanasi in 1977, as a 21-year-old.

After completion his cultural travel, Lindner chose a shiny red Ambassador over some of the best and most beautiful cars on earth like BMWs, Mercedes or Audies that brag of their German origin. He has already tried the lifeline of Delhi, the Delhi Metro rail.
Field of interest in India:
On his quest to connect with people, he is interested in Indian art, history, architecture, music and dance. He cannot forget the country's people. He says "When you are a diplomat, you spend most of your time in diplomatic circles. I am always trying to have direct contact with people, be it in factories or slums. This country is safe enough for me to do this."
