On Wednesday, Indian President Ram Nath Kovind will formally inaugurate the Motera Stadium in Ahmedabad before the start of the third Test between India and England.
The Motera will host the third and fourth Test of the series, with the penultimate fixture being a day-night contest. It would be the first instance for the venue when it comes to hosting an international match.
The occasion also sees the 110,000 capacity Motera being half-filled. Since the Covid-19 outbreak began back in March 2020, all the sporting activities in the country have been taking place behind closed doors. It was the second Test between India and England that marked the return of the fans. Now, over 50,000 people are expected to grace the Motera, with the stadium getting permission to have 50% attendance.
The Motera stadium has already mesmerised fans, cricketers, and experts with its charm. The venue is spread over 63 acres and has a total of 76 corporate boxes, an Olympic-level swimming pool, an indoor academy, four dressing rooms for athletes, and food courts.
It has also been learned that Home Minister Amit Shah will be the guest of honour during the inauguration ceremony of the world’s largest cricket stadium.
