Shortage of COVID-19 vaccines in Vasai-Virar

Bahujan Vikas Aghadi (BVA) MLA Kshitij Thakur, on Thursday, wrote to Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope to draw attention to a shortage of vaccination doses in the Vasai-Virar City Municipal Corporation.

He urged Tope to ensure an adequate supply of Covaxin and Covishield, the recognised vaccination doses for the novel coronavirus.

In a letter to the Health Minister, the Nallasopara MLA said that the Maharashtra government gave VVMC’s health department 38,900 vaccine doses of Covishield and 4,800 doses of Covaxin.

“Of the Covishield doses, only 890 are left which can barely go on for two days. On the other hand, we have only 4,300 doses remaining of Covaxin,” Thakur added.

Thakur also said that new cases, like Mumbai, have been on the rise in Vasai taluka as well. As a result of which the demand for vaccination among senior citizens and patients with comorbidities is also increasing.

“In view of this, I request you to urge the Central government for an adequate supply of coronavirus vaccination doses for the VVMC’s health department,” Thakur added.

Meanwhile, Tope had recently said during a press conference that the state’s Covid-19 vaccine stock will last for another 10 days.
