Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut on Monday demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should call a special session of parliament to discuss the grips of a devastating second wave of the virus as states face fresh lockdowns.
He said that the states would want to discuss with the Centre and seek support, as most of them are running low on production and supply of oxygen, vaccines and Remdesivir in their fight against covid-19.
Speaking to reporters, he said, “I have been speaking with senior leaders of several states over the past few days and I understand that the country is facing a war-like situation. Earlier, few states were hiding numbers but now we are in the grips of a public health emergency. Ministers were telling me that there are frantic calls for help for beds, medicines, oxygen, essential drugs and tests. Mortuaries are overflowing with the dead.”
“A two-day special session will help all the states to discuss possible ways of beating the epidemic and seek help from the Centre with enhanced healthcare infrastructure,” he added.
