In an encouraging development, Mumbai on Tuesday recorded a further decline in new cases of coronavirus with 953 infections in a span of 24 hours.
The caseload increased to 6,90,889 and the death toll reached 14,352 with 44 fresh fatalities.
The recoveries outnumbered new cases.
As many as 2,258 patients were discharged from hospitals, taking the total recoveries to 6,41,598. Mumbai is now left with 32,925 active COVID-19 cases.
The recovery rate stands at 93 per cent. The overall growth rate of COVID-19 cases in Mumbai from May 11 to May 17 is 0.27 per cent. The doubling rate in Mumbai is 255 days as of May 18.
According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC)’s data, 17,920 COVID-19 tests were done today.
The number of active containment zones (slums and chawls) has dropped below 80 at 78, while the tally of sealed buildings dropped to 305, the BMC said.
Maharashtra on Tuesday reported 28,438 new COVID-19 cases and 679 deaths, pushing the tally of infections to 54,33,506 and the death toll to 83,777, the state health department said.
