After a gap of two years, Indonesian consulate in Mumbai is organising live Ramayana Ballet for Mumbaikars. The Ramayana Ballet will be held at Y B Chavan Auditorium at Nariman Point on 10th October,2022 at 7 pm. This show is organised free of charge on invitation only. The booking can be made through online and by dialing at the Indonesia consulate office.
The Ramayana Ballet is organised in Mumbai in association with Steam House India. Globally popular ballet group from TWC Prambanan, Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Beside Ramayana Ballet Indonesian Batik Fashion Show is also organised simultaneously.
Ramayana Prambanan is a show that combines dance and drama without dialogue, based on the Ramayana story. It is performed near Prambanan Temple on Java Island, Indonesia.
Ramayana stories based on Hindu epics adapted to Javanese culture make Ramayana Prambanan a unique dance. More than 200 professional dancers and gamelan musicians participate in this Ballet. Ramayana’s story is the journey of Rama in rescuing his wife Sita (usually called Sinta) who was kidnapped by the king of Alengka Kingdom, Rahwana.
To showcase and promote Indonesian textile art, The Batik fashion show is organised. Indonesia’s prominent designer Ghea Panggabean is behind this show. Panggabean has a four decades old fashion house which is the most popular globally. She helped revive Indonesia’s textile tradition with her trademark jumputan tie-dyed fabrics.
It may be noted that last time the Indonesian Embassy in India and Consulate General of Indonesia in Mumbai arranged an “Online Streaming” of “Ramayana Ballet” in 2020 to mark this solemn occasion of Indonesia’s 75th Independent Day, due to Covid. As the pandemic is over, most of the consulates are organising their live events.
His Excellency Agus P Saptano, Consul General of Indonesia in Mumbai in his live broadcasting about Ramayana Ballet said “After almost three years of Pandemic, we are happy to bring back live Ramayana Ballet to Mumbai. I am happy that Real life Ramayana will be performed live and watching Indonesian Ramayana live is a very rare occasion. During Pandemic we brought Ramayana, Mahabharata and Gana Kalajaya (The birth of Lord Ganesha) ballet on live streaming. We wish we could invite more Indian’s but we look forward to watching it on YouTube.
