This is an inspiring story of an Indian who will be a Padmashree soon in this coming year. This is a story of empathy and humanity. On the busy streets of Mumbai, many unclaimed dead bodies attract attention. Apart from a few whispers and looks, no one steps in to help. In a city where people do not have time for the living, a man devotes his time to the dead. Prakash C Gidwani has been working as a social activist for human rights since a five decades now, earlier professionally he was a Pharma and Legal Cooperative Act consultant at NELCO, TATA. He’s the saviour of the dead, who are abandoned, or don’t have family or friends at death. He’s been cremating dead bodies which don’t have kin and has cremated around 5500 dead bodies including during the Covid Pandemic. He also pursued BMC to agree to provide free wood for the cremations of the dead, the same was implemented in September of 2008 in 86 cemeteries.
Apart from cremations of the unclaimed dead bodies he’s also a nature lover and climate activist and has 7500 plantations.
He also helps people with kidney replacement at Hinduja hospital. Gidwani has been working tirelessly for the abandoned and the poor since a long time now. He has been been awarded many prestigious awards like the Limca Book, India Book of Records, United Nations Rear Super Hero and many more and now he’s a nominee for Padmashree 2023 we wish him all the best and hope he keeps doing this so that the faith in humanity never dies.
