‘Development in Action’: Ethiopian Ambassador Visits industries in Surat

The Ethiopian Ambassador to India, His Excellency Demeke Atnafu Ambulo who was on a tour to Surat in Gujrat state. He paid a visit to the two prominent industries namely Alliance Fibers Limited, located at Mota Barasara, Kim in Surat district and Groboc Food Works industry, located at Piplod in Surat.

The Ambassador held face-to-face talks with Industrialists, directors of the companies. He interacted with them to know more about their exclusive profile which is beneficial to all.

It is worth mentioning that both companies are high profile and specialising and excelled in their fields. Alliance Fibers limited is a waste recycling industry that converts used water bottles into plastic bottles, polyester yarns, ropes, sound proof materials and other. It is the first company in India to certify with OBP Certification for the ocean recycled polyester products. Groboc Food Works industry engaged in Agro processing, biogas production and electric motor designs.

During his visit, the Ambassador discussed with the industrialists’ sectors specific investment opportunities and encouraged them to explore the possibility of setting up manufacturing units in Ethiopia. Establishing their units in Ethiopia can boost Indo Ethiopian industries which would be beneficial to all.

Furthermore, while in Surat he had productive interactions with representatives from Manas Trends, a textile industry and Mevitas LLP, an agricultural innovation and technology firm. He underscored the economic importance and rewarding benefits of investing in Ethiopia.

H.E. Demeke Atnafu Ambulo speaking to Mumbai Messenger Newspaper said “There is a vast opportunity for Indian industrialists to establish their industries in Ethiopia. There are many Indian industries who are functional in Ethiopia which are doing excellent business. Many of them are on an expansion spree because they have foreseen tremendous potential in Ethiopia to grow further.

At the Business Investment Forum held on Dec 08, 2023, he invited Indian companies to invest in the priority sectors such as agriculture; agro processing; manufacturing of pharmacy products; textiles; garments, leather; leather products; agro chemicals, IT and mining sectors.

Ethiopia–India Relations: It has existed for almost two millennia. Modern diplomatic relations between India and Ethiopia were established at the level of legations in July 1948, after the independence of India. The relationship was raised to the ambassadorial level in 1952. The two countries have enjoyed close and friendly relations with India supporting Ethiopian developmental efforts while Ethiopia has supported Indian interests such as its claim to a permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council. India and Ethiopia share a common understanding on such issues as cross-border international terrorism, the need and direction for reform of the United Nations, and the importance of action on climate change.
