In a significant bust at Mumbai Airport, the Customs department has seized valuable contraband, including diamonds and gold, with a collective worth of ₹6.46 crore. According to an official statement released late Monday night, four passengers were apprehended in connection with the seizure, which involved over 6.8 kg of gold valued at ₹4.44 crore and diamonds worth ₹2.02 crore.
The operation uncovered various smuggling techniques employed by the individuals. Among the intercepted passengers was an Indian national bound for Bangkok, who was found concealing diamonds within packets of noodles stashed inside his trolley bag. The individual was subsequently arrested.
Additionally, a foreign national arriving from Colombo was caught attempting to smuggle gold bars and a cut piece, weighing a total of 321 grams, concealed within her undergarments.
Furthermore, the Customs officials intercepted 10 Indian nationals arriving from various international destinations, including Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Bahrain, Doha, Riyadh, Muscat, Bangkok, and Singapore. These individuals were found carrying a total of 6.199 kg of gold, valued at ₹4.04 crore. The gold was concealed in various ways, including inside the rectum, on the body, and within baggage compartments.
The seizures underscore the vigilance and enforcement efforts of the Customs department in combating smuggling activities at Mumbai Airport. Authorities continue to monitor and apprehend individuals engaged in illegal trafficking of precious commodities, ensuring the integrity and security of the nation’s borders.
