In a significant diplomatic gesture, Chinese Ambassador to India H.E. Xu Feihong recently met with a delegation of prominent Indian literary and artistic figures. The meeting, held on July 31, focused on strengthening cultural exchanges between China and India, highlighting the rich historical connections between the two nations.
Ambassador Xu emphasized the deep-rooted cultural ties, citing examples such as Xuanzang’s studies at Nalanda, Rabindranath Tagore’s visit to China a century ago, and Dr. Kotnis’s service during China’s resistance against Japanese aggression. He stressed the numerous similarities between the two countries in literature, music, philosophy, and fine arts.
Looking ahead to the 75th anniversary of China-India diplomatic relations in 2025, Xu called for implementing the consensus reached by both countries’ leaders. He emphasized adhering to the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence and the “five mutuals” proposed by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in his recent meeting with Indian External Affairs Minister Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar.
The Indian delegation, having recently concluded a visit to China from July 25 to 30, shared their positive experiences. They expressed admiration for China’s development and the warmth of its people. The group visited Beijing, Changzhou, and Nanjing during their trip, which was organized by the Chinese Embassy in India at the invitation of the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries.
The delegation members expressed hope for strengthened cooperation in various cultural fields, including poetry, philosophy, translation, painting, and youth exchanges. This meeting underscores the ongoing efforts to enhance people-to-people connections between China and India, potentially paving the way for improved bilateral relations through cultural diplomacy.world
