Tourism Western Australia recently hosted a week-long familiarization trip for 10 Destination Management Companies (DMCs) to showcase the diverse attractions of the largest Australian state to the Indian market. The Indian professionals explored highlights such as the tranquil wine regions of Margaret River and the chance to spot quokkas on Rottnest Island—key features of the Drive the Dream campaign led by renowned cricketer Adam Gilchrist. This initiative aims to promote the region’s wonders and boost its visibility among Indian travelers.
In a press statement, Tourism Western Australia highlighted that the group had the chance to explore many of the region’s top attractions during their visit. Notably, several of these sites are featured in the Drive the Dream campaign, which promotes the region with the help of legendary Australian cricketer Adam Gilchrist.
The tour covered Perth, the capital of Western Australia, as well as various day-trip destinations from the city. Highlights included:
Margaret River: A premium wine region renowned for its Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay, and the largest wine-producing area in the state with Geographical Indication protection.
The Pinnacles: A dramatic lunar-like landscape known for its dark skies, attracting both amateur and professional astronomers, and offering various adventure activities by day.
Swan Valley: Western Australia’s oldest wine region, rich in history and viticulture.
Fremantle: A historic port city with significant cultural and heritage attractions.
Rottnest Island: A dreamlike island paradise famous for its unique marsupial, the quokka, which is found only on the island and nearby coastal areas.
The statement also noted that the Indian delegates had the opportunity to engage in one-on-one meetings and networking events with local Western Australian operators, fostering business prospects and exploring new opportunities in the region.
