In a bold move to boost tourism and preserve historical landmarks, the Uttar Pradesh (UP) government has opened Request For Quotation (RFQ) to lease out its heritage properties to private players for development. This initiative aims to transform these historical treasures into vibrant tourism hubs, contributing to both the local economy and the conservation of rich cultural heritage.
The state of Uttar Pradesh is home to numerous heritage sites, including palaces, forts, and havelis, many of which have fallen into disrepair over the years. By inviting private investors to lease these properties, the government intends to restore their former glory and open them up to visitors, showcasing the architectural and historical richness of the region. The move is expected to attract investment from hospitality and tourism companies, keen on developing these properties into luxury hotels, resorts, and cultural centers.
The project follows a public-private partnership (PPP) model, where the government retains ownership of the heritage sites, while private developers take responsibility for their restoration, maintenance, and commercial use. This strategy ensures that the properties are preserved in line with heritage norms while being made accessible for tourism purposes.
This initiative not only promises to breathe new life into UP’s heritage properties but also creates opportunities for employment, boosts local businesses, and enhances the cultural experience for travelers, positioning Uttar Pradesh as a leading heritage tourism destination in India.
Mukesh Kumar Meshram, Principal Secretary U.P. Tourism and Culture said “Uttar Pradesh is renowned for its rich historical and heritage tourism, attracting visitors from around the world. We are now offering the opportunity to lease our heritage properties to private entities for development. This initiative presents a unique chance for investors to contribute to and benefit from our storied cultural legacy”
Meshram added, “Tourism in Uttar Pradesh has significantly contributed to the state’s economy, driven by iconic sites such as the Taj Mahal, Fatehpur Sikri, and Varanasi. By leasing additional heritage properties, we aim to diversify our tourism offerings and attract even more visitors, both domestic and international”.
