A High-Level Drug Destruction Committee of the Central Board of Indirect Taxes (CBIC), including senior officials from Mumbai Customs Zone-I and the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), successfully destroyed 24.73 kgs of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) today. The substances, including Heroin, Cocaine, and Marijuana, were valued at approximately Rs 177 Crores in the illicit market. The drugs were incinerated at the Common Hazardous Waste Treatment Storage & Disposal Facility (CHWTSDF), MWML, in Taloja, Navi Mumbai.
This marks the first drug destruction event for the current fiscal year. In the last financial year, Mumbai Customs Zone-I destroyed 215.27 kgs of drugs valued at Rs 1525 Crores. The seized drugs came from the Postal Appraisal Section (PAS) and the Special Investigation and Intelligence Branch (SIIB) of Mumbai Customs Zone-I, as well as the DRI.
Mumbai Customs Zone-I remains committed to strict law enforcement against the trafficking of NDPS substances, aiming to secure a safe and healthy environment for its citizens.
A senior official, speaking on condition of anonymity, stated, “We regularly destroy seized drugs in accordance with established procedures. We also maintain strict confidentiality regarding the location and timing of these operations to prevent any issues before the destruction process.
