The Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre, the cultural arm of the High Commission of India in Colombo, marked Hindi Day on September 13, 2024, by awarding certificates to 30 Sri Lankan police personnel who successfully completed their Hindi course at the Centre.
High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka, H.E. Santhosh Jha, extended his congratulations to the third batch of police personnel for their achievement in mastering spoken Hindi. During the event, he also unveiled the Centre’s annual Hindi publication, “Sri Lanka Hindi Samachar.”
The celebration was attended by Senior Deputy Inspector Generals of Police Mr. Lalith Pathinayake and Mr. S.C. Medawatta, as well as Mr. Jaliya Senaratne, Executive Director of the National Police Academy (NPA), and other senior officials. In his address, Sr. DIG (Admin) Mr. Pathinayake expressed gratitude to the High Commission of India and the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre for providing valuable Hindi language training, which enhances communication for Sri Lankan police personnel.
Hindi Day 2024 also commemorates the 75th anniversary of Hindi’s adoption as an official language of India. Celebrated both in India and abroad, the day features various competitions aimed at promoting the understanding of Hindi’s historical and cultural significance.
