Amid an increasing number of complaints about turbid water, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Tuesday urged residents to filter and boil water before consuming it as a precautionary measure.
In a statement, the BMC acknowledged receiving several complaints of muddy water from parts of the eastern suburbs and island city. The issue arose following continuous rainfall in the Bhatsa reservoir catchment area over the past three to four days, which has led to an increase in water turbidity in the river channel.
In response, the Hydraulic Engineering Department has been taking necessary steps at the water treatment plant to reduce the turbidity levels. Additionally, the BMC assured residents that adequate chlorine treatment is being administered to ensure the water remains safe and clean for consumption.
Until the situation is fully resolved, the civic body has recommended that all residents take precautionary measures by filtering and boiling their water before use, especially for drinking or cooking purposes. The BMC continues to monitor the situation and is working to restore normal water quality levels as soon as possible.
