Amid the suspense over Maharashtra’s next Chief Minister following the Mahayuti alliance’s historic electoral win, caretaker CM and Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde has expressed unconditional acceptance of the BJP’s decision regarding the top post. Shinde emphasized his loyalty to the alliance and his willingness to abide by the BJP’s final verdict.
Speaking in Thane, Shinde disclosed that he assured Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah of his support. “There is no resentment or obstruction from our end,” Shinde said, adding that BJP’s decision would be final.
The Mahayuti coalition, comprising BJP, Shiv Sena (Shinde faction), and Ajit Pawar’s NCP, secured 230 out of 288 seats in the Maharashtra Assembly elections, cementing their dominance. While the BJP claimed 132 seats, the Shinde-led Shiv Sena and Pawar’s NCP won 57 and 41 seats, respectively.
Amid speculation over the CM post, BJP Maharashtra chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule expressed his support for Devendra Fadnavis. However, he affirmed that the decision would be made collectively by the alliance leaders.
Shinde, expressing gratitude to voters, remarked on the unity within Mahayuti and the fulfilment of Shiv Sena founder Balasaheb Thackeray’s vision. His conciliatory stance underscores his commitment to alliance harmony amid intense speculation.
