In a remarkable achievement fueled by strategic initiatives and a tourist-friendly approach, Thailand welcomed over 35 million international visitors in 2024, generating more than 1.8 trillion Baht in tourism revenue. This strong rebound sets the stage for an ambitious 2025, with targets of 36 to 39 million visitors and a revenue goal of 1.98–2.23 trillion Baht, as reported by the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT).
Ms. Thapanee Kiatphaibool, Governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), attributed this remarkable achievement to strategic government initiatives that boosted Thailand’s status as a world-class destination. Between January 1 and December 27, 2024, Thailand welcomed 35,047,501 visitors, reflecting the success of these efforts. Key initiatives, such as visa exemptions for 93 countries and the removal of TM.6 immigration forms, greatly enhanced travel convenience. Additionally, the aviation sector expanded, increasing seat capacity by 26% in 2024 and adding over 311 flights during the peak season.
High-profile events like the Amazing Thailand Countdown and the Maha Songkran World Water Festival, along with unique cultural experiences, attracted a diverse range of international tourists, further expanding Thailand’s appeal.
It’s worth noting that Thailand is preparing for an exciting year ahead as it gears up for the Amazing Thailand Grand Tourism and Sports Year 2025. This initiative aims to position the country as a top global destination by focusing on several key areas. A major component of the strategy is hosting world-class events that will captivate international audiences and showcase Thailand’s unique blend of tradition and modernity.
In addition, the country plans to highlight its rich and diverse culture, offering travelers an authentic experience through art, cuisine, festivals, and historical sites. Improving travel convenience is also a top priority that includes streamlining visa processes, enhancing transportation infrastructure, and expanding services to make travel smoother.
Thailand is also keen on collaborating with global influencers to expand its reach. By partnering with international personalities and thought leaders, the country hopes to tap into new markets and promote its tourism offerings more effectively.
The hotel industry in Thailand is flourishing, with guests spending generously on dining and entertainment. Rajan Khurana, General Manager of Lebua Hotels and Resorts, one of Bangkok’s most luxurious hotels, shared, “Guests from all over the world are booking well in advance at our hotel. We’re experiencing a surge in demand for fine dining, top-tier entertainment, and the best watering holes. For Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve this year, we introduced new venues for parties, classic entertainment, and musical extravaganzas. As one of the premier destinations in Bangkok, we were fully booked in advance and saw significant revenue growth. I live by the motto, ‘Don’t wait for the perfect moment. Take the moment and make it perfect,’ and that’s exactly what my team and I did, ensuring success with a smile on everyone’s face.
