In celebration of International Women’s Day 2025, the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre (SVCC) of the High Commission of India, Colombo, organized a series of events focused on women’s empowerment, health, and self-defence.
The initiatives included a sports event at Wellawatte Hindu Ladies College, featuring the Physical Training (PT) squad team, and a self-defence training session at St. Paul’s Milagiriya Girls’ School, benefiting 300 students.
Additionally, SVCC partnered with the University of Colombo’s Faculty of Indigenous Medicine for a session on the role of nutrition in women’s health.
SVCC will also host a ‘Yoga for Women’s Empowerment’ event with the Brahma Kumaris Raja Yoga Centre on March 8, 2025, promoting wellness.
These events align with the Fit India Mission launched by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, advocating physical fitness, mental well-being, nutrition, and social inclusion under the theme ‘Stronger Her, Healthier Future,’ reinforcing the vision of women-led development in India and globally.
