Customs officers at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International (CSMI) Airport, Zone III, on April 6, 2025, made significant seizures in two separate cases. The first involved the interception of a passenger carrying suspected hydroponic weed, while the second case resulted in the recovery of gold concealed in undergarments.

According to a Customs press release, based on spot profiling, officers intercepted a passenger arriving from Bangkok on Indigo Airlines flight 6E 1052. During the baggage examination, officers discovered 9.532 kg of suspected hydroponic weed (marijuana), with an illicit market value of approximately ₹9.53 Crore. The narcotic substance was cleverly hidden inside a trolley bag. The passenger was arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, and further investigation is ongoing.

In a separate operation, acting on specific intelligence, Customs officers intercepted two passengers arriving from Dubai on Indigo Airlines flight 6E 1854. During the search, officers recovered 21 crude gold pieces, weighing 0.789 kg and provisionally valued at ₹58.83 Lakh. The gold was concealed in the undergarments worn by the passengers. Investigations are continuing in both cases.

These proactive actions by Mumbai Customs officers underscore their vigilance in curbing the smuggling of illegal goods into the country.
