The Governor of Maharashtra C P Radhakrishnan inaugurated Bombay commemorating YMCA’s 150th anniversary event held at NCPA Mumbai on 25 April, 2025 . The Governor released the coffee table book ‘How Much Can We Do for Others’ and also the souvenir of the Bombay YMCA on this occasion.
In his speech, the governor described the YMCA as a truly secular organisation and commended its dedicated work in the fields of education, social welfare, and sports. He emphasized that, despite the presence of the word “Christian” in its name, the Young Men’s Christian Association operates beyond the boundaries of religion, language, race, and colour, serving people from all walks of life with an inclusive spirit.
In his speech at the 150th-anniversary celebration of the Bombay YMCA, Governor C. P. Radhakrishnan lauded the organisation for its outstanding contributions to various sectors such as education, social welfare, and sports. He described the YMCA as a “truly secular organisation,” highlighting its remarkable ability to bring people together regardless of their backgrounds. The Governor stressed that the YMCA’s work is not limited by religious or cultural affiliations, despite its Christian roots. He pointed out that, although the organisation’s name contains the word “Christian,” the YMCA transcends the boundaries of religion, language, race, and colour, serving individuals from all walks of life with an unwavering commitment to inclusivity.
Governor Radhakrishnan further explained that the YMCA has always placed service to humanity above all else, focusing on the collective well-being of communities. He praised the YMCA for its diverse programs aimed at empowering youth, promoting education, and fostering social cohesion, which has positively impacted countless lives over the years. He noted that the organisation’s ability to adapt and grow with changing times while holding onto its core values has been a testament to its enduring legacy.
He also reflected on the YMCA’s significant role in shaping future leaders and athletes through its sports programs and vocational training initiatives. The Governor’s words underscored the organisation’s fundamental belief in creating opportunities for personal and community development, irrespective of one’s background.
In closing, Governor Radhakrishnan expressed his deep admiration for the YMCA’s dedication to fostering unity, inclusivity, and social progress, and encouraged the organisation to continue its work of uplifting society for future generations. The Governor’s office was represented by Dr. Prashant Narnaware, secretary to the governor, and S. Ramamoorthy, deputy secretary.
