Maharashtra Governor C.P. Radhakrishnan reviewed key initiatives under the Women and Child Development Department at a meeting held at Raj Bhavan. The session included detailed presentations on the ‘One Stop Centre’ and ‘Mission Shakti’ schemes aimed at supporting women and children in distress.

During the review, the Governor highlighted the department’s crucial role in uplifting women, children, and other vulnerable groups including orphans and street children. He emphasised the importance of personal involvement, a humane approach, and collaborative team efforts in the effective execution of government welfare schemes.

Expressing concern over the high dropout rate among tribal students, the Governor urged officials to focus on inclusive strategies that could enhance educational retention and increase enrolment in higher education, particularly among tribal boys and girls.

The meeting was attended by Women and Child Development Minister Aditi Tatkare, Department Secretary Dr Anup Kumar Yadav, Women and Child Development Commissioner Nayna Gunde, CEO of UMED – Maharashtra State Rural Livelihood Mission Nilesh Sagar, ICDS Commissioner Kailash Pagare, and other senior officials.

The Governor’s interaction marked a call for stronger ground-level execution and sustained monitoring to ensure the state’s welfare schemes reach the intended beneficiaries efficiently.
