Taiwan continues its upward trajectory as a sought-after destination for Indian travellers, registering an impressive 30.73 percent growth in Indian tourist arrivals during the January–May 2025 period. A total of 19,202 Indian visitors arrived in Taiwan in these five months, compared to 14,688 during the same period in 2024.

This surge follows a highly successful re-entry into the Indian market by the Taiwan Tourism Administration (TTA) in January 2024. The national tourism agency launched a strategic 360-degree market development plan post-pandemic, aiming to deepen ties with India’s booming outbound travel sector. Thanks to a series of market-focussed campaigns and trade engagement efforts, Taiwan closed 2024 with a strong 20.81 percent growth, hosting 38,158 Indian tourists.

Paul Shih, Director of the TTA Singapore Office, highlighted the strategic importance of the Indian market. “We are very bullish about India’s outbound tourism potential. Over the last 18 months, we’ve built strong partnerships with the Indian trade. With Taiwan recording a growth rate nearly 2.5 times higher than India’s overall outbound travel growth of 8.44%, our initiatives are clearly delivering results.”

TTA’s efforts are now expanding under its global campaign “Taiwan – Waves of Wonder.” The agency is actively diversifying its offerings for Indian travellers. Recently, it introduced premium Golf Tourism packages combining golf, luxury resorts, wellness retreats, hot springs, gourmet cuisine, and shopping experiences—tailored to appeal to high-net-worth individuals and corporate travellers.

TTA also conducted a roadshow in Kolkata, marking its growing interest in East India. According to Shih, India is Taiwan’s top South Asian market in both visitor numbers and spending. TTA will continue investing in trade activations combined with consumer outreach to enhance visibility and ease of access for Indian partners selling Taiwan as a premium travel destination.
