The Jamaican High Commission in New Delhi celebrated Jamaica’s 63rd Independence anniversary with a spectacular cultural evening at Andaz Delhi, themed “Be Proud, Be Bold, in the Black, Green and Gold.” The event drew over 900 guests and showcased Jamaica’s vibrant culture, music, and cuisine, while also highlighting the nation’s deepening ties with India.
H.E. Jason K. M. Hall, Jamaica’s High Commissioner to India, in his address, emphasized the multiple milestones being celebrated — 63 years of independence, 63 years of uninterrupted diplomatic relations with India, 187 years of abolition of slavery, and 180 years since the first Indian arrival in Jamaica. He invited guests to experience the island’s unique spirit firsthand.
The evening featured a riveting live performance by Jamaican reggae artiste Tessellated, whose music captured the essence of the Caribbean. Guests were treated to authentic Jamaican flavors at an outdoor jerk station and a special Ital food counter, complemented by Appleton Estate Rum and the world-renowned Blue Mountain Coffee.
The celebration drew members of the Diplomatic Corps, senior officials, cultural icons, and industry leaders, reaffirming the strong bonds between Jamaica and India. The event was graced by Smt. Anupriya Patel, Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, and Chemicals and Fertilizers, who was felicitated by High Commissioner Hall. The gesture highlighted the enduring friendship and shared cultural legacy linking the two nations.
