Senior IAS officer Rajgopal Devara of the Maharashtra cadre has been appointed as the Member (Technical/Administrative) of the Maharashtra Real Estate Appellate Tribunal, Mumbai. The Housing Department, Government of Maharashtra, made the appointment.
The oath of office was administered by Hon’ble Justice S.S. Shinde, Chairman of the Tribunal, in the presence of Hon’ble Members Justice Shriram Jagtap and Mr. Srikanth Deshpande, IAS. The ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, colleagues, and well-wishers.
Expressing his gratitude, Devara said, “It is a great opportunity to serve in a quasi-judicial capacity, and I look forward to gaining deeper insights into judicial processes and court conduct. It is an honour to join the esteemed judicial fraternity.”
He also highlighted the transformative impact of India’s Real Estate Regulatory regime. “The establishment of robust oversight and adjudication mechanisms has brought transparency, uniformity, and accountability to the sector. As a Member of the Appellate Tribunal, I am committed to safeguarding homebuyers’ interests and contributing to the sector’s growth,” he added.
Devara emphasized the role of real estate in driving Maharashtra’s economic progress and reiterated his commitment to the vision of a “Vikasit Maharashtra” by 2047.
About Rajgopal Devara: A 1992-batch IAS officer, Devara has served Maharashtra in varied capacities over three decades. An alumnus of Jawaharlal Nehru University with a doctorate from TISS, he began his career as Collector of Ahmednagar and Kolhapur and Divisional Commissioner of Amravati. He has held key posts as Secretary in Tribal Development, Medical Education, and Co-operation, and served as Principal Secretary for Protocol and Financial Reforms. Currently Additional Chief Secretary, he oversees Planning, Revenue, Registration and Stamps, and Excise. He has also been an adjunct professor at TISS and authored policy papers on finance, education, tribal welfare, and cooperative reforms, and is credited with initiatives like the Chief Minister’s Fellowship Program.
