In a series of intelligence-driven operations, Customs officers at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMI), Mumbai Zone-III, made multiple high-value recoveries over 29th-30th September 2025, seizing gold worth several crores and endangered wildlife.
Acting on careful profiling, officers intercepted six passengers arriving from Nairobi and Dubai carrying concealed 24 Kt gold. Recoveries included 0.930 kg of melted gold bars valued at Rs. 0.97 crore, 0.742 kg worth Rs. 0.71 crore, and 1.110 kg of gold dust valued at Rs. 1.15 crore, all hidden in clothing or undergarments. The passengers were arrested under the Customs Act, 1962.
In a separate operation, acting on specific intelligence, Customs officers intercepted a passenger arriving from Bangkok and recovered two White Cheeked Gibbons (Nomascus Leocogenys), one male and one female, concealed inside a trolley bag. The passenger was arrested under the Customs Act, 1962 read with the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.
These seizures highlight the vigilance and proactive measures of Mumbai Customs, safeguarding national revenue and protecting endangered species, while sending a strong message against smuggling attempts.
