The Maharashtra Raj Bhavan has officially been renamed as Maharashtra Lok Bhavan following directions issued by the Government of India. Governor Acharya Devvrat on Monday instructed the Raj Bhavan Secretariat to implement the name change with immediate effect.

Calling the decision a visionary step, the Governor said the move is aimed at making the Bhavan more people-centric, transparent, and aligned with public welfare. He stressed that the newly renamed Lok Bhavan should evolve beyond being the Governor’s residence and office, and transform into an active centre of dialogue and public engagement.

According to the Governor, Lok Bhavan will work as a platform connecting citizens, students, farmers, researchers, social organisations, and various communities across the state. He added that the purpose behind the renaming is to strengthen the bridge between the state administration and the people it serves.

The Governor noted that Lok Bhavan would not remain restricted to its constitutional duties, but would stay sensitive to the needs and aspirations of society. The idea, he said, is to ensure the institution becomes a space that reflects the concerns, hopes, and expectations of the people, embodying the meaning of a true Lok Bhavan.

The official change marks a significant shift in the positioning of the Raj Bhavan, placing greater emphasis on accessibility, public participation, and inclusive governance.
