The growing culinary landscape of Swindon has a new attraction with the arrival of Taste of Bharat, a modern Indian restaurant offering an authentic yet contemporary North Indian dining experience. The 50-cover restaurant is the latest venture led by master chef Sanjay Kumar Ujjainwal, a seasoned culinary professional with over three decades of experience across leading kitchens in India and abroad.
Located on Rodbourne Road, near the Designer Outlet, Taste of Bharat positions itself as a destination for both traditional Indian food lovers and new-age diners seeking refined flavours. Chef Ujjainwal, who hails from a family with more than 70 years of culinary heritage, has curated an exclusive menu that blends classic Indian recipes with modern presentation and technique.
The restaurant offers a wide range of vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes. Vegetarian highlights include paneer tikka, dal makhani, chole masala and vegetable biryani, while the non-vegetarian selection features favourites such as butter chicken, chicken tikka masala, lamb rogan josh and fish curry. Each dish, the management says, reflects a commitment to authenticity, quality ingredients and balanced spices.

Chef Sanjay’s professional journey includes stints at renowned establishments such as The Ashok Hotel and Le Meridien in India (New Delhi), as well as international experience at Michelin-starred Benares in London and Indian restaurants in Marlow and Wembley. He is also known in the UK for founding the popular Rangoli Restaurant in Swindon, which served diners for nearly eight years.
Taste of Bharat is positioned as a multi-format outlet, offering dine-in, takeaway and delivery services through platforms such as Deliveroo and Just Eat. The restaurant also plans to attract local patrons with weekly offers and special promotions.
Arthur Anderson, a British diner at Taste of Bharat, said, “Indian delicacies have always fascinated me, but the experience at Taste of Bharat was truly exceptional. The flavours were rich yet well balanced, each dish telling a story of India’s culinary heritage. It felt like discovering authentic Indian cuisine in a warm, welcoming setting right here in Swindon.”
Master Chef Sanjay Kumar Ujjainwal said, “I am a third-generation chef who has inherited the legacy of cooking from my grandfather and father. Taste of Bharat is my way of sharing the soul of Indian cuisine with Swindon. Every dish on our menu carries the flavours I grew up with, refined through years of experience, yet always rooted in tradition, authenticity and heartfelt hospitality.”
With its focus on flavour, hospitality and consistency, Taste of Bharat aims to become a preferred Indian dining address in Swindon, bringing the richness of Indian cuisine to the heart of the UK town.
