The Tourism Office of Spain in India has inaugurated the Spain–India Dual Year 2026 by participating in the New Delhi World Book Fair, where Spain is the Focus Country. The initiative marks the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations and aims to strengthen cultural and economic ties, with tourism as a key priority.
With an estimated two million visitors expected at the fair from January 10 to 18, the Office aims to introduce Indian readers and culture enthusiasts to Spain’s diverse destinations. Key focus areas include lesser-known locations, language tourism, women travelers, nature tourism, the Gaudí Year, and upcoming solar eclipses visible from Spain.
Promotional slogans at the Spain stand include: “Unknown Spain: Your Next Chapter,” “Women Travelers in Spain: A Passport to Yourself,” and “Study Spanish in Spain.” A quote by Cervantes from Don Quixote, displayed in Spanish, English, and Hindi, highlighted the connection between reading, culture, and travel: “He who reads a lot and travels a lot sees a lot and knows a lot.”
The event was inaugurated by Spain’s Minister of Culture, Ernest Urtasun, along with a delegation of authors and publishers, Deputy Head of Mission Francisco Capote Yeregui, and María Gil, Director of the Cervantes Institute in Delhi. On the third day, the Governor of Tamil Nadu visited the Spain stand and was briefed on the Dual Year, Spanish-language courses, and tourism opportunities in Spain.
The fair offers Spain a platform to connect with Indian audiences, highlighting its rich cultural, educational, and touristic experiences for travelers of all interests.
