World Trade Center Mumbai hosted a special live musical evening featuring acclaimed Portuguese singer-songwriter Luísa Sobral, underscoring its commitment to promoting cultural diplomacy alongside trade and investment engagement.
The event highlighted the growing role of creative industries in strengthening international relations, bringing together dignitaries, industry leaders, and cultural enthusiasts. It reflected WTC Mumbai’s vision of integrating culture with commerce to foster deeper global connections.
Addressing the gathering, Maria Manuela de Macedo Franco emphasized Mumbai’s vibrant cultural fabric and the expanding ties between India and Portugal. She noted that such initiatives play a crucial role in enhancing bilateral engagement, fostering people-to-people connections, and opening new avenues for collaboration across sectors.
Vijay Kalantri highlighted the rapid evolution of India’s music industry, driven by digital platforms and changing consumer preferences. He pointed out that international streaming of Indian artists has seen exponential growth in recent years, reflecting the sector’s expanding global footprint. He added that the industry is poised for steady growth, reinforcing the role of culture as a catalyst for economic engagement.
Echoing similar sentiments, Somesh Batra said that India and Portugal share a long-standing relationship that is now evolving with cultural exchange emerging as a key pillar alongside trade. He noted that music, as a universal language, helps build stronger connections and creates opportunities across sectors such as tourism, education, and the creative economy.
The highlight of the evening was a soulful live performance by Sobral, whose compositions offered the audience an immersive glimpse into Portugal’s rich musical heritage.
Concluding the event, Priya Pansare reiterated the importance of cultural initiatives in driving economic growth and global engagement.
