South African CG Andrea Kuhn asserts: Will try to open direct air connectivity
The Mumbaikar have a reason to rejoice. Soon, direct flight from Mumbai to Johannesburg would begin to fly from Mumbai. If everything goes as per plans, permission for flying to Johannesburg would be in place. Her Excellency, Andrea Kuhn, newly appointed Consul General of South Africa in Mumbai asserted when she met Governor of Maharashtra B. S. Koshyari. H.E. Kuhn met Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari at Raj Bhavan in Mumbai on Tuesday, 18th February, 2020. It was a courtesy call. H.E. Kuhn met the Governor for the first time after she took over as new C.G. of South Africa in Mumbai. She took charge from outgoing CG Maropene Ramokgopa.
She asserted that Mumbai is very important to South Africa. She said South Africa is keen to establish direct air connectivity between Mumbai and Johannesburg. There are lots of Indian companies which are investing in South Africa. Now, more Indians are visiting South Africa and direct air connectivity between the two financial capitals will prove mutually beneficial”.
She recalled that “Mahatma Gandhi began his Satyagraha in South Africa. India had been a strong supporter of South Africa in the struggle against apartheid. She also added, “The Indian Diaspora in South Africa is making handsome contribution in all walks of life in her country”.

During her meeting with Governor, she apprised that South Africa is now a member of BRICS and many other international bodies and is currently heading the African Union.
The Governor of Maharashtra, B.S. Koshyari, welcoming the Consul General of South Africa told her that, “He will take up the matter of establishing direct air connectivity between Mumbai and Johannesburg with Government of India. I am optimistic that, Indian government will take positive steps in this matter”.
Meanwhile, a senior official from Civil Aviation Ministry on the condition of anonymity said “There is a very good traffic load of passengers, flying between Mumbai and Johannesburg. The Government of India is contemplating various options to connect with Johannesburg from Mumbai. The civil aviation ministry is doing thorough research and development to make this route operational soon. When everything falls in place properly at appropriate time, civil aviation minister will announce flight from Mumbai to Johannesburg”.
