Damayanti Bhattacharya, Principal of Jasudben ML School

Damayanti Bhattacharya, Principal of Jasudben ML School said “The motive to celebrate a Food day event was to make students understand the importance and benefits of healthy eating habits. This year has been hard for everyone, hence the school decided to give a family fun time together through this contest. This fascinating idea struck us, teachers, when it was observed that in this lockdown period, students have learned a lot of new things in the kitchen; be it cooking hacks, baking or making chocolates, etc. These are tiny steps towards understanding the sustainability of food and a great way to increase children’s vegetable intake. I believe that our actions today will sow the seeds for tomorrow”

The principal further added “It is important to remember that our kids aren’t born with a craving for French fries and pizza and an aversion to broccoli and carrots. This conditioning happens over time as kids are exposed to more and unhealthier food choices. Our school is coming up with such innovative ways to inculcate healthy habits in our child’s lifestyle is actually the need of the hour and our parents totally support them and thank them for being thoughtful”, added a 6th-grade student’s parent”.

Padmashri Awardee Celebrity Chef Sanjeev Kapoor

Padmashri Awardee, Celebrity Chef Sanjeev Kapoor, Speaking exclusively to Mumbai Messenger Newspaper said “If you want to give your children a better chance at healthy eating, spend time in the kitchen teaching your child to cook. The time you spend with them in the kitchen can help to develop wonderful parent-child bonds, and they will gain more confidence in knowing they are learning useful life skills. It’s wonderful for the home environment and your relationship with them. You can use to help improve your kids’ eating habits—not just today, but for the rest of their lives. As you teach them to cook healthy meals, you’ll implant in their minds the value of eating right. When you sit down as a family to enjoy the meal you and your children prepared, it will continue to form those healthy eating habits”.

Chef Kapoor further adds“When your kids leave home and strike out on their own, the benefits to their health, independence, and confidence will be a hundred-fold! They will know how to prepare healthy meals, and they will know what a healthy meal looks like. They’ll also be more confident because they are prepared to cook for themselves, and they’ll be able to make smart food choices. In the end, that will be the best way for them to be ready for life after they leave home. The skills your children and teenagers develop now may not affect their immediate eating habits as visibly, but they will become much more “fully realized” once they leave home and live on their own”.
