Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s G South ward office has taken up a slew of initiatives to improve the aesthetics of Worli. Its latest initiative is the beautification of shabby metal barricades at construction sites.
Construction work is on at about 80-100 sites in Worli, and the BMC has started painting the metal sheets and the compound walls in the area. The civic body had been doing the beautification work on its own, but now it has roped in an organisation that works with transgender people.
Currently, a group of six to seven transgender painters is working at the Love Grove pumping station’s compound wall at Annie Besant Road, Worli. The BMC is likely to expand its project and beautify the walls across the city.
Talking about the same, a civic official said, “We have involved the organisation that works with painters from the transgender community. They were roped in after we thought that something should be done for the community and especially the artists, who deserved a platform.”
Sharad Ugade, the assistant municipal commissioner of the ward, said, “We are trying to improve the ward with various interventions and initiatives, aesthetics and paintings works are part of it. Also, various people get opportunities to showcase their talent and thus we roped in a community here.”
