The Shivaji Park Stadium is undergoing a big makeover and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is planning to get rid of dust in the ground and, for the same, it is set to spend ₹4.07 crores on this project.

The call to revamp Shivaji Park comes after complaints by residents of the area regarding the dust that comes out from the stadium resulting in air pollution and allergy-related issues. The BMC will reportedly take up this project in a phased manner.

Assistant Municipal Commissioner of the G North ward, Kiran Dighaokar said that the tendering process has already begun and that bids will be invited in a week.

“The priority now is to resolve the issue of dust and makeover of the ground in a systematic manner with rainwater harvesting system. Earlier, a water storage system was installed in the field on the initiative of MNS,” a BMC official said.

Officials added that a consultant geologist has been hired for this project given the experts’ views that Shivaji Park requires needs 2.5 lakh litres of water per day. Keeping this in mind, officials will also construct 35 ring wells within the periphery of the ground.
