Mumbai records a massive spike in COVID-19 cases

Mumbai recorded a massive spike in COVID-19 cases on Wednesday. At least 1,539 people tested positive for the novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours, which took its case tally to 3,37,123, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said.

The city reported five deaths and at least 11,511 people have succumbed to the virus in Mumbai so far.

There are 11,379 active cases in the city.

Executive health officer Dr. Mangala Gomare of BMC said that this was the highest number of cases reported in the second wave. BMC expects that the figure can go up to 2000 cases in the second wave.

The total number of recoveries surged to 3,13,346 with 888 new discharges today. The recovery rate of the Mumbai district is 93 per cent.

The overall growth rate of COVID-19 cases in Mumbai from March 3 to March 9 is 0.32 per cent. The doubling rate in Mumbai was 215 days as of March 10, 2021.

The total of COVID-19 tests done so far increased to 34,75,744.
