In order to contain the spread of coronavirus which has sent the city into a tizzy once again, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to conduct antigen tests at several crowded spots around Mumbai.
BMC Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal said that Rapid Antigen Tests will be conducted at railway stations, bus stops, crowded markets, and other such places to detect positive cases in the city on time.
Tests will also be conducted at several malls in the city which attract a large number of people on a regular basis.
BMC officials are of the opinion that this step will help increase the number of COVID-19 tests as well as track positive patients without wasting any time.
Mumbai on Thursday reported the biggest ever one-day spike in the daily case count after 2,877 persons tested positive for the virus. This is the highest the metropolis has recorded in a day ever since the first case of coronavirus was reported on March 11.
Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has asked for strict implementation of COVID-19 rules to curb the further spread of the virus. On the other hand, Mumbai mayor Kishori Pednekar recently said that a night curfew now seems necessary in the city.
