Bombay HC asks police not to arrest Param Bir Singh in atrocities case till May 24

The Supreme Court on Wednesday said that the allegations levelled by former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh on Home Minister Anil Deshmukh were serious, but refused to entertain the plea.

Singh has sought CBI investigation in the alleged corrupt malpractices of the Maharashtra Home Minister.

The former Mumbai Police chief, on Monday, had filed a petition before the Supreme Court claiming that Deshmukh ‘pressurised’ him to probe the role of certain BJP leaders and to ‘somehow implicate’ them in the case of the death of MP Mohan Delkar, but he “did not succumb” to the pressure.

He had also challenged the state government’s order to transfer him from the post of Mumbai Police Commissioner.

The apex court asked the former top cop why he has not made Deshmukh a party in his petition as the allegations are levelled against him.

Further stating that the allegations are serious, the court asked senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi appearing for Param Bir Singh why was he not approaching Bombay High Court for seeking a CBI probe.

The top court refused to entertain the plea and asked him to approach the High Court.

In his plea, he also repeated the graft allegations he had made against Deshmukh in a letter to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, and also accused the Maharashtra Home Minister of interfering in police investigations.

The allegations were made a day after Singh was moved out of office as Mumbai Police Commissioner.
