Speculation had been running rampant for some time now that the release of Akshay Kumar’s much-awaited film Sooryavanshi was going to be pushed again amid the rising cases of COVID-19 across the country.
And now, it has been confirmed that the film, directed by Rohit Shetty, will not enter theatres on 30th April as recently announced.
“The Honourable Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Mr Uddhav Thackeray had a discussion with director Rohit Shetty yesterday. In the meeting, Mr Uddhav Thackeray appreciated Rohit Shetty as he took the brave and difficult decision of postponing Sooryavanshi owing to the current COVID situation in the state”, said a statement released by the makers.
Sooryavanshi was originally set to release on 24th March 2020. However, as the coronavirus pandemic engulfed the whole world in its claws by the first quarter of 2020, the makers had to put its release on hold indefinitely.
In an attempt to prevent the rise in cases, the government of Maharashtra has announced several restrictions, including night curfew and weekends lockdown.
